- Joined Darlington on loan from York City towards the end of August 2023. Prior to his loan spell he had joined York on the back of an impressive season at step 3 of non-league with Suffolk side Leiston FC. Started his career in the Norwich City youth system. After initially signing for Step 5 side Norwich United upon his Canaries exit, Barnes earned a move up the leagues with Leiston for the 2020/21 season. Barnes hit double figures from midfield for the two seasons prior to his move to York City, scoring a total of 35 in 117 games in all competitions. Scored twice on his Darlington debut at Alfreton Town to help the Quakers win 3-2.
