- George Smith started his career with Barnsley, and after making his debut for them in December 2014, made 41 appearances. He was a member of the squad that won promotion to the championship in 2016, and also lifted the Football League Trophy at Wembley. He joined Gateshead in July 2016 and was a regular in their side until he returned to the Football League with League One Northampton in July 2017. He moved to Chesterfield from League Two in January 2018, and then had loan spells with Dover and Boston, before moving to Harrogate Town in July 2019. He was part of the Harrogate squad that won promotion to the Football League during the 2019/20 season. He moved back to Gateshead in September 2020, and was a regular in their side until moving to Darlington in the summer of 2021.
