- After starting as a youngster at Ayr United, Kyle began his professional career with Sunderland, where he had been in the youth team. He remained at the Stadium of Light for six years, making 91 appearances in the Football League, scoring 17 goals. During his time with the Black Cats he had a spell on loan with Darlington during the 2000/01 season.
