- Defender who is amongst a small group of players to make over 300 appearances for the club. Liddle began his professional career at Aston Villa in 1990, where he had been a trainee. He signed a professional deal with Villa but didn't make a breakthrough into the first team. He was released after just one season and joined Blyth Spartans. He stayed there for three seasons before signing for Middlesbrough in 1994. He went on to make around 30 appearances for the club but in February 1998 he joined Darlington on loan. He impressed during his loan spell with the club and joined on a permanent basis ahead of the 1998/99 season. Liddle was highly rated by supporters. Towards the end of his career injuries started to take their toll but he still managed over 20 appearances in his final season (the 2004/05 campaign). His 300th appearance for the club was marked with a commemorative beer called Liddle's best. He announced his retirement in May 2005. Liddle would return to the club as a youth team manager and was a caretaker manager for a number of occasions - the longest of which was between October 2011 and April 2012. Eventually departed the club joining Middlesbrough as an under-18 coach at the Academy. He would eventually be appointed Academy manager in January 2017.
