- Sunderland born Robson started his career with Murton before signing for Rochdale in 1996. Was eventually released by Rochdale and played for Spennymoor United and Harrogate Town, with whom he was the Northern Premier League First Division second-highest goalscorer in the 1998/99 season. Signed for Blyth Spartans ahead of the 1999/00 season. Made over a 120 appearances and scored 86 goals for Spartans. This attracted the attention of Darlington. He had a trial with the club but rejected the offer as he could apparently earn more playing semi-professionally and working outside of football. Ahead of the 2003/04 season he had another trial with Darlington and this time signed a one year deal with the club. He would go on to make six appearances before eventually being released.
