- Gowling managed the club for just over three months during the 2023/24 season after being appointed to replace Alun Armstrong. During his 16 games in charge, the Quakers managed just three wins and four draws. A heavy 4-0 defeat at Tamworth early on set the scene for what turned out to be a disastrous appointment. Under Gowling, the club endured one of its worst nights of football, suffering an 8-0 defeat at Chorley. By Boxing Day 2023, the decision had already been made to relieve Gowling of his position.
