- Joined Darlington on loan from Newcastle United during the 2022/23 season. The Wigan-born midfielder had been at Liverpool's academy since the age of eight before making the switch from Merseyside to Tyneside. Capable of playing in defence as well as the middle of the park, Niall made his under-18s bow for Liverpool at the age of 15 under Steven Gerrard during the 2017/18 campaign. Brookwell turned down offers from other Premier League clubs, as well as elsewhere in the Football League, to join the Magpies and captained United's under-23 side on numerous occasions during the 2021/22 campaign.
