- Born in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear, Knight began his career with the Middlesbrough youth system. Knight signed a professional contract with Middlesbrough in early February 2005. He joined Darlington on loan during the 2005/06 season to cover for injuries to Sam Russell and Bertrand Bossu. After picking up a hip injury during a 3–2 defeat to Notts County he finished the loan with three appearances. Stints at Swansea and Mansfield followed his departure from Boro but Knight eventually returned Darlington ahead of the 2009/10 season. Failed to impress in his second spell at the club and was eventually released by then manager Steve Staunton in early December.
