- Born in Sunderland Barnes made his senior debut at the age of 16 for Darlington in March 2009. Turned professional in the summer of 2010. Played a handful of games during the 2009/10 season as the club was relegated from the football league. Also had a spell on loan at Whitby Town before eventually being released by the club in June 2011.
