- Joined Darlington on loan from Hartlepool United towards the end of the 2011/12 season. Quakers were struggling financially at the time but it gave Johnson the opportunity to play some football. Johnson, born in Sunderland, joined Hartlepool at the age of 12 and turned professional in 2010. Prior to his Darlington loan move the player had also had a loan spell with Workington.
