- Gateshead born shot-stopper Liam Connell joined Darlington in October 2019 on a month's loan from South Shields. Connell has been regarded as one of the Northern League's top goalkeepers for a number of years, having made his name with Dunston UTS. He spent seven years with Dunston UTS before signing for South Shields in the summer of 2016. Connell has plenty of experience with his list of former clubs including Gateshead, Ryton, Chester-le-Street Town, Durham City and Tow Law Town. However it is his time at Dunston that he most remembered for. He kept over 100 clean sheets for them. During his time there he also won the FA Vase in 2012 as Dunston beat West Auckland 2-0 in the final. He arrived at Darlington in October 2019 and went straight into the side which faced Leamington in the FA Cup. Connell was an instant hit with three clean sheets in four games including a penalty save in the FA Cup tie at Tamworth.
